Texas Health and Human Services records
Texas childcare, on the record
Every licensed childcare program in Texas, with the inspection record the state publishes and almost nobody reads: each citation, the risk level HHSC assigned it, the inspector's own notes, and whether it was corrected.
No reviews here and no ratings. We reproduce what the state recorded and we do not grade anybody on it.
- 12,918licensed programs
- 132,633citations on record
- 205,219inspections and reports
- 1,168,933licensed capacity
Records run back to October 2017. 132,440 of the 132,633 citations carry the inspector's own written finding, which we publish verbatim rather than summarizing. Last updated from HHSC on November 7, 2026.
Start with your metro
149 cities across 15 Texas metros have their own page. Every licensed program in the state has one whether its city does or not, so a program in a town of four thousand is here too.
Also covered: El Paso, Corpus Christi, Beaumont-Port Arthur, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, Laredo, Amarillo, Tyler-Longview, Abilene.

What is on a program's page
- The license, as the state holds it
- Licensed capacity, the age bands the program may take, hours and days, whether it accepts child care scholarships, and the date the license was issued.
- Every citation, dated, with its risk level
- HHSC classes each finding from Low to High. We print the class the state assigned, the standard it was cited under, the inspector's narrative, and whether it was corrected at inspection or later verified. A corrected violation is never rendered as open.
- What changed, which nobody else keeps
- The state's register is overwritten in place: when a program's capacity or ownership changes, the previous value is gone. We snapshot it nightly, so a page can show that a license was cut from 120 children to 60 last March.
- Openings, when a program confirms them
- A program can tell us it has openings, and we date-stamp the confirmation. An unconfirmed opening is never shown as confirmed and a stale one is never shown as current, which means this field is usually empty. That is the honest state of it rather than a broken feature.
What this is not
It is not a ranking. Nothing here computes a score, a grade or a star rating out of the state's data, and nothing should: a program open fifteen years has been inspected far more often than one open two, so citation counts measure exposure as much as conduct. Printing a grade on top of that would be an opinion wearing a number's clothes.
It is not a review site. Parents cannot post about a program here and neither can competitors, which removes the one thing on every other directory that a business cannot answer and we cannot verify. What a program CAN do is reply: an operator who claims their listing may publish a response beside any citation, and we show it there.
Guides
The explanations live here once instead of on every city page, so they can be made better in one place.
If you run a listed program
Claim your listing to confirm openings, publish a response beside any citation, and correct what the state has wrong about you. Claiming is free, and it verifies against the address HHSC holds for the program rather than anything you type.
